Adaptations in the nitrogen and carbon metabolism in Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus

We study nitrogen and carbon metabolisms in marine picocyanobacteria, with the goal of understanding how they have been modified in adaptation to the marine environments where Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus are most abundant.

We use molecular biology and biochemical techniques to analyze the function and physiological regulation of different proteins, including enzymes, transporters and transcriptional factors both in the laboratory and in the field.
