However, it is revealing to study what happens in formal situations, where texts are highly conventionalized by the administration. We will analyse the mechanisms used in adoption applications in a bilingual sample (Spanish-English), both at macrostructure and microstructure levels, to examine to which extent some formulas that are traditionally used in legal and administrative contexts are inclusive, or whether neology or other transgressive uses which only work in written communication need to be sought.
Resorting to Grijelmo’s analysis and proposals (2019), as well as Derrida’s concept of ‘hospitality’ (2000), the need for further research is necessary at both theoretical and social level. Acknowledging civil rights and recognition for oppressed groups ought to be an ethical obligation.
